Exhibition Text

Nigel Brown ONZM is undoubtedly New Zealand’s most significant narrative artist. Over a career spanning more than five decades, he has combined autobiography, social observation, political commentary, and moral inquiry.  His distinctive and readily recognisable visual language resonates with audiences across generations.

Rich in observation, wit, conviction, and humanity, Broadly Speaking is a major survey of Brown’s practice and his vision of a New Zealand identity. Bringing together works from 1982 – 2025 this exhibition affirms his sustained commitment to examining the complexities of contemporary life - where we are now, where we are going, what we believe and value and how we live together.

Presented in partnership with Te Kano Estate.
