Congratulations to Hannah Beehre, who is the newly announced recipient of the prestigious 2016 Parkin Drawing Prize.
Her entry Earthly Catastrophe was described by judge Jenny Harper as having “the authority of an historical Chinese scroll and the resolve of a contemporary fine artist at work” and revealed that Beehre was pushing the boundaries of the medium and herself as an artist.
The $20,000 award adds yet another feather to Beehre’s cap: in 2012 she went to Antarctica as an Artist-in Residence, and in 2004 received the Olivia Spencer Bower Trust Award.
Her recent exhibition at Milford Galleries Dunedin, Cosmogony, featured images of the cosmos on hand-dyed and painted silk velvet.
