Exhibition Text

Eleven nationally significant artists are represented in the Works on Paper exhibition. It features screenprints and lithographic editions, as well as the deft and beautiful watercolours of Simon Edwards; the remarkable pastel studies and drawings of Gary Waldrom; the optical effects and collagic process of Toni Mackinnon; the surreal sensuality of Paul Martinson.

Stanley Palmer and Dick Frizzell are acknowledged as great New Zealand artists and works on paper have been a key component of their artistic endeavours. Ralph Hotere similarly has produced a critically acclaimed and extended body of paper works throughout his career which has its own criteria as well as a fundamental dialogue back and forth with his paintings.

Reuben Paterson astonishing screenprints, Karl Maughan’s complex Colyton and Neal Palmer’s Woven Path are also included.
