Exhibition Text

Te Waipounamu features the sublime atmospheric and altering landscapes of Simon Edwards and the symbolic messages of Nigel Brown. It includes the infinite spaces and fluid marks of Israel Birch, the hieroglyphic narratives of Andy Leleisi’uao. Alongside the poise, beauty and grandeur of Chris Charteris’ stone necklaces and carved sculptures are major new illusionary works from Mark Mitchell, the recent Portage Ceramic Award recipient. The morphing sculptures of Terry Stringer add further testimony to the distinctiveness of our uniquely New Zealand culture and values.
