 | New Zealand painter Meredith Collins describes her work as “figurative oil painting based on narrative”. Her use of pale tones and reserved but engaging expressions in her unconventional portraits of both real and mythological women and children create a serene and introspective feel. Collins explores her cultural identity and personal heritage in her paintings using Ta Moko and evocative symbolism to address her Maori and European ties.
Waikato based painter, Meredith Collins was a Finalist in the prestigious 16th Annual Wallace Art Awards 2007 (travelling exhibition), a Finalist in the National Contemporary Art Award, Finalist in the Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Award 2007, a Finalist in the Agendo Art Award, Melbourne, Finalist in the Adam Portraiture Award 2006 and a Finalist in the Parklane Art Award 2006.
Collins exhibits regularly in New Zealand and has exhibited in major group shows including ‘Existence, Life according to Art’ and National Contemporary Art Award exhibitions at the Waikato Museum, the Wallace Art Award Travelling Exhibition at the Auckland Art Gallery and at The New Dowse.
